Bible Search
Sojourn includes a powerful Bible search system that finds passages using exact matching, name aliases, and fuzzy matching — all running in parallel for fast, comprehensive results.
Searching
Enter a search term in the search bar to find matching verses across the active Bible translation. Results are ranked by relevance using three complementary strategies:
| Strategy | How it works | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Exact match | Full-text search on the verse content | "love one another" finds exact phrases |
| Name aliases | Expands names to known variants | "Jesus" also finds "Christ", "Messiah" |
| Fuzzy match | Finds similar words by spelling distance | "mercey" still finds "mercy" |
Results from all three strategies are merged and deduplicated, with exact matches ranked highest.
Multi-Tab Search
Like the reading interface, search supports multiple tabs so you can run several searches at once:
- Click the + button in the search tab bar to open a new search tab
- Each tab maintains its own query, results, and filters
- Switch between tabs by clicking on them
- Close tabs with the x button
The URL reflects all open search tabs (e.g., /search/earth/God%20light represents two search tabs).
Filtering Results
Use the filter menu to narrow search results by book or section of the Bible. Active filters are shown as badges on the filter button.
AI Search
Premium Feature
AI search is available to premium users.
AI search uses a language model to find passages by meaning rather than keywords. It understands context, themes, and paraphrased ideas — so a search like "passage about God comforting those who mourn" can find relevant verses even if those exact words don't appear in the text.
AI search results appear in a separate section above standard results and include:
- A brief summary explaining why each passage was found
- Direct links to view the passage in the reading interface
You can toggle AI search on or off from the search interface.
Saved Searches
Save frequently used searches for quick access later. Saved searches preserve both the query and any active filters.
- Save — Click the bookmark icon next to a search tab to save it
- Load — Open the saved searches menu to re-run a previous search
- Delete — Remove a saved search from the menu
- Limit — Up to 20 saved searches per account
Saved searches also include a time scope, so you can see when you last ran each search.
Recent Searches
Your last 5 searches are automatically remembered (for 30 days) and shown in the search interface for quick re-use. Recent searches are stored server-side and available across devices.
Navigating to Results
Click on any search result to open that passage in the reading interface. The verse is highlighted briefly so you can find it in context.
