Bible Reading

The reading interface is the heart of Sojourn. It provides a clean, focused environment for reading Scripture with support for multiple open passages.

Reading Modes

Sojourn offers two reading modes, toggled from the command palette or reading toolbar:

  • Verse-by-verse — Each verse is displayed on its own line with a verse number, making it easy to reference specific passages.
  • Paragraph — Verses flow together in natural paragraphs as they appear in the original text, providing a more immersive reading experience.

Multi-Tab Reading

You can open multiple Bible passages simultaneously using tabs:

  1. Click the + button in the tab bar to open a new tab
  2. Each tab maintains its own book and chapter position
  3. Switch between tabs by clicking on them
  4. Close tabs with the x button on the tab

The URL updates to reflect all open tabs, so you can bookmark or share your current reading setup. For example, /read/Gen/1/Rev/1 opens two tabs: Genesis 1 and Revelation 1.

Move between chapters using:

  • Arrow buttons at the top and bottom of the page
  • Command palette (Ctrl+K / Cmd+K) to jump directly to any book and chapter
  • Sidebar navigation to browse books

Selecting Verses

Click on individual verses to select them. When verses are selected, a selection drawer appears at the bottom of the screen with several actions:

Copy

Copy selected verses to your clipboard. A dropdown provides four copy formats:

Memorize

Save the selected passage to your memorization library for practice. This button is available to signed-in users.

Create Note

Open the quick note panel to create a note linked to the selected verses. The note automatically embeds the Scripture passage and saves to your default journal.

Quick Notes

While reading, you can create notes linked to specific verses without leaving the reading interface. The quick note panel slides in from the right side and includes:

  • A title field
  • Journal selection (defaults to your default journal)
  • A rich text editor with the selected Scripture passage embedded
  • Auto-save on submit

Verse Numbers

Toggle verse number visibility from the command palette. Hiding verse numbers gives a cleaner reading experience, especially in paragraph mode.

Keep Screen On

For extended reading sessions, use the "Keep screen on" command from the command palette to prevent your device screen from dimming.
